Furniss' New Rick Stein Oat Biscuits
Sunday, 24 January 2010
With over 50 Cornish cheeses available, there has been a surprising absence of Cornish biscuits on sale to compliment them on the cheese board. One of the first new biscuits to address this deficiency is Furniss' oat biscuits produced to recipes developed by Padstow celebrity chef and foremost ambassador of Cornish quality food Rick Stein. The biscuits come in three varieties: Cornish sea salt; Davidstow cheddar; and thyme.
The Furniss Biscuit Company has been in existence since 1886 but fell into financial difficulties in 2006 when it was rescued by pasty makers Proper Cornish of Bodmin. Since then it has gone from strength to strength with a 2009 turnover of ?2 million: which is quite a few biscuits. It is also now returning to the fudge market where it had a strong reputation some years ago. All Butter; Clotted Cream and Chocolate fudges will be available in early 2010.
