Cornish Food For Christmas

Monday, 22 November 2010

mouse_with_hatAs Christmas approaches so our thoughts go to planning what we'll be eating and drinking over the festive season. Here's a selection of Cornish delights to help you make the right choices: but do order early - many, particularly the smaller artisan producers, have limited stocks and often run out. We'll be adding to the list as we get nearer the holiday time.

For Christmas gifts you can't do much better than a selected variety of Cornish fare exquisitely presented in a hamper. Do browse through the choices offered by Cornish Food Hampers.

Excellent free range Bronze Turkeys are available from Trevilley Farm, and for something a little more unusual perhaps you should consider one of their free range Geese or Multi Bird Rolls. As with all producers listed here, their contact details are on this website. Fresh turkeys are also available from Vicarage Farm.

Where would we be without some Christmas Cake in front of the fire and with a fine cup of tea to go with it. The Cornish Fruitcake Company, The Cake Hole and Trevilley Farm all produce excellent traditional rich cakes. And don't forget Christmas pudding and mince pies. The Cake Hole also makes gluten and wheat free cakes. Sargies' Christmas puddings are back again this year by popular demand.

Christmas is also a time of year when preserves and conserves come into their own. Crellow produce a range of excellent quality products which will add a real "Wow!" to any meal. Cranberry Relish is, of course, ideal with turkey and do try Kea Plum and Rosemary Jelly with goose. Quince Charming is a superb fruit cheese to accompany particularly blue cheeses. Another great pairing are Beetroot Relish with smoked salmon.

For a real treat to come home to after a good Boxing Day walk, why not get in a dozen cornish pasties from Pengenna Pasties for the freezer.
