Definitely Not Devon
Wednesday, 11 May 2011
Cornish clotted cream producer Rodda's has taken over production of Definitely Devon clotted cream from Robert Wiseman Dairies who have closed down their Okehampton plant.
Wiseman have explained that they are unable to continue producing clotted cream at their new dairy in Bridgewater where their other operations at Okehampton are being moved to. The Definitely Devon operation has now been sold to Rodda's.
There remain about two months supply of Definitely Devon packaging which will be used but with a "Made in Scorrier" sticker on it. This is in agreement with Trading Standards and avoids the packaging "going straight to landfill." When the packaging is used up, retailers will have the option of selling Rodda's Cornish clotted cream or making other arrangements.
Needless to say, Devon farmers are less than pleased with the loss of the brand.
Wiseman bought the Definitely Devon business, which processed, packaged and distributed milk and clotted cream, for £800,000 in 2006.
