Protected Status For Cornish Pasty
Saturday, 26 February 2011
After a nine year campaign the Cornish Pasty has been awarded Protected Geographical Indication status. This means that Cornish Pasties have to be made in Cornwall and to a specific recipe. This will include beef (diced or minced and not less than 12.5%), potato, onion and swede in a light seasoning and encased in a slow baked D shaped crimped pastry, glazed with milk or egg. So pasties with carrot, peas, cheese, chicken or curry will be just "pasties" and not genuine Cornish Pasties.
