St Austell Baker the Best in the West

St. Austell based Martins Bakery has won both top prizes for bread and confectionary at this years Western Bakery Championships.

 

 

The competition, based at Bako Western in Collumpton had over 600 entries and Martins came away with first prizes for their croissants, jam doughnuts, cherry cake, muffins and cheese bread.

 

 

 

The family owned business also won second place prizes for their decorated chocolate swiss roll, scones, celebration fruit cake, french baguettes, fancy rolls and rye bread. An accumulation of points awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, amounted to winning the overall prize for each class.

 

 

Martins Bakery is run by Martyn, Carol & Stuart Hawkins and daughter Nicola Caust. Martyn said: ?Our family has been baking since 1865 and we still pride ourselves on using the old traditional methods of production which result in the 'real' bread flavour you just can't beat!?

 

 

 

Martyn continued: "Winning the competition has been a real boost for the staff, and they are over the moon with their success, its a real pat on the back for all their hard work and proves what I have always believed: they are the Best in the West."
