The Biggest Pasty In The World

Friday, 10 September 2010

Proper Cornish, the pasty makers at Bodmin, have produced a record breaking pasty for a new television programme hosted by ex-rugby international Matt Dawson. The whole process has been supervised by Cornwall Trading Standards to enable an official application to be made for entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The pasty was baked in  a massive oven, built from scratch in just over 2 weeks. The pasty took 11 hours to cook, weighed 728kg (1604lbs 15oz), was 4.17 metres (13ft 8ins) long, and 1.9 metres (6ft 4ins) wide. The whole effort cost £7,000.

A good chunk of the pasty was eaten by spectators but tragically most of it had to be destroyed as it could not be frozen for health and safety reasons. Why, oh why, did they not invite us along to the event??
