Halwyn’s was probably our find of the summer. It’s more or less in the middle of nowhere, by the banks of the Fal on the opposite side of the river from the Smuggler’s Cottage from which there runs a foot ferry. Road access is from the Truro side and we got there by bicycle. Only open from Easter to the end of September (11am to 5pm), it’s a real old-fashioned tea garden. Fantastic lunches are served up – including local crab. Home made cakes and cream teas are exceptional and the milk shakes a real treat. The views are stunning and the experience will long remain.
Halwyn’s Tea Garden is at Old Kea, Truro. TR3 6AW. Phone on 01872 272152.
