Vicarage Farm specialises in poultry but also run about 100 ewes and a small herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle.
Lamb is available in freezer packs or can be bought fresh at Falmouth Farmers’ Market.
Beef The farm has a breeding herd of 23 Aberdeen Angus cows. Cattle are finished on hay and sugar beet pulp. Aberdeen Angus beef is beautifully marbled which prevents it drying out during cooking. It is hung for between three and four weeks for full flavour and tenderness.
Eggs are provided by Muirfield layers and duck eggs are also available.
Chicken is all free range with Muirfield Black Rocks and Muirfield Brown Rocks: the ideal free range birds.
Ducks are Khaki Campbells and also Muscovy.
Turkey Vicarage Farm Christmas turkeys have been named ‘best in the world’. (Fergus Henderson in Esquire magazine, 2008). Around 100 turkeys, both white and bronze, are reared for Christmas lunch every year.
