Falmouth’s Greenbank Hotel is situated on the water’s edge on Harbourside, TR11 2SR and boasts a Green Tourism Gold Award. We’ve eaten at the Greenbank many times, but have to admit that our latest lunch proved disappointing. Perhaps it was because there was a large wedding reception taking place, but there was definitely a sense that the staff were under pressure. Two different waiters asked for our wine order; we had to ask for bread (even though the table was plated for it); and we had to chase up our coffee order.
The menu was interesting but brief. The starters were excellent but either the knives were not sharp or both beef and baked ham mains were on the tough side. Both desserts were dry and heavy.
There is no doubt that the Greenbank does all it can to source locally, and we were allowed as much time as we liked to linger at the table, taking in the panoramic views of Falmouth Harbour and the waters of Carrick Roads. Notwithstanding our disappointments we know this was a rare off day and we will certainly be back.
