Proper Cornish are one of Cornwall’s leading pasty makers and have now been acquired by French Groupe Boncolac who sell frozen snacks and desserts into over 30 countries. There is a hint that French patisserie and macaroons will be coming out of Bodmin in due course and that’s certainly something to look forward to.
Whether there is a reflection here on Britain’s exit from the EU or simply investment opportunities from a weak sterling, we do seem to be seeing increased ownership of Cornish businesses by non-local concerns. One owner is, of course, no different from another (unless perhaps it is a co-operative): the important thing is securing economic growth in the county and continuing our traditional and innovative foods.
