As part of Truro’s controversial Eastern District Centre, a new store selling only Cornish food and drink is to sit alongside national retailer Waitrose. The Great Cornish Food Store, at 5,000 square feet about a quarter of the size of its famous neighbour and landlord, will be open seven days a week with extended hours and will create about 20 new jobs. Produce sold from the new store will be of high quality and good value rather than be promoted just because it is Cornish or because it is cheap. The project shows great ambition and we wish it every success.
Great Cornish Food Store Ltd has been put together by Ruth Huxley, Managing Director of Cornwall Food and Drink, Angie Coombs, previously General Manager of Cornwall Nursery and of Taste of the West Cornwall, Michelin starred chef Paul Ripley, and Claire Vickers, former Marketing Head at Fifteen Cornwall.
